This article applies the combination of sound and vibration measurement, which is called the vibration-acoustics coupling technology to improve the automotive noise. This technique can not only quickly identify the noise source in a car, but also can provide an insight to improve the sound quality and thus increases ride comfort. Two cases are described in the article to show how to solve the problem of the engine noise and car body resonant as well as the improvement in ride quality. SenSound is used for reconstruction of the sound measured by a microphone array, which provides the 3D illustrations of sound intensity and particle velocity distributions. Such information can accurately determine the location of the sound source, as well as provide more insights to the problem. The other application of vibration-acoustics coupling technology is to combine the Head acoustics sound quality evaluation system and the Polytec laser Doppler vibrometer. It can not only solve the noise problem, but also improve the sound quality of the vehicle.
