This article seeks to examine the interactions between Mongolia, the Comintern and the Chinese warlord General Feng Yuxiang between the years 1925 and 1927, during which period the Comintern diametrically changed its perceptions of Feng: from a friend of the Chinese revolution that it supported, to that of an enemy of the revolution. It shows the delicate position Mongolia occupied for being sandwiched between two giant neighbors, China and Soviet Russia. Though carefully toeing the lines laid down by the Comintern in its dealings with Feng throughout the period in question, Mongolia was blamed for being too close to Feng, with some of its leaders being labeled as "rightists" and purged as a result.
