Low Dose (2000 ml) Polyethylene Glycol Solution for Ambulatory Colonoscopy Preparation

低劑量(2000 ml) Polyethylene Glycol溶液作爲門診大腸鏡檢之腸道準備

摘要

In an attempt to improve the traditional cleansing method for large bowel preparation, the present study investigated the colonic cleansing effect of low dose polyethylene glycol (PEG) in patients who received total colonoscopic examination. In this study, 2 liters of PEG were administered to 140 patients for rapid colon cleansing without other medications. The colonic cleansing effect and the patient's acceptance of PEG 2000 ml in one group were compared with traditional cleansing in another group (n=135) of patients who were treated with castor oil (30 ml) and bisacodyl (15 mg). The result of this study indicated that PEG 2000 ml without other medication had a more significant cleansing effect than traditional cleansing (p<0.05). In addition, the PEG 2000 ml group had fewer adverse effects than the traditional group and the preparation period only required 4 hours. Thus, we suggest that PEG 2000 ml without other medication may be a simple and effective colonoscopic preparation method, especially for the ambulatory patient.
