This article reports on a qualitative study of an impromptu speech event in the Taiwanese foreign language context analyzing skilled speakers and unskilled speakers. in which the author analyzes different aspects of communicative competence according to their performance. L2 pronunciation acquisition will be discussed from the perspectives of communicative competence. Results suggest that communicative competence is determined by the overall performance. rather than individual features and that suprasegmental features especially stand out in the performance. Some research implications are also discussed.
