摘要


馬來西亞華文教育世紀發展,華人社會長期勠力推動。現今華文教育體系中的華文小學、國民型中學、獨中和民辦大學等學堂建設,有賴華社人士參與募款,領航組織與建構發展論述,為華教的可持續發展鋪陳。唯馬來西亞多元文化社會環境裡,華教運動面對主流社群質疑它有種族主義議程,或被認為導致華人無法融入馬來西亞社群的因素之一。面對負評,除了探討外者的認識是否偏誤,檢視華社本身對華教運動的認知思維也應是重點。華教的發展歷經變遷,當今的思維是為如何,是否符合時宜,這些問題在華教長期發展的個別節點值得被提出審視,可讓關注此運動者參考。針對上述問題,本文以2019年發生的「爪夷文事件」作為案例,嘗試從各方對此事件的反應與行動探詢他們對大馬華文教育發展的看法。其中華社對政府的干預、對華文教育的完整性保持以及華教體系如何為大馬國族意識作出貢獻等看法,是本文關注的重點。

The development of Chinese education in Malaysia has been a century-long effort by the Chinese community. The construction of Chinese primary schools, national-type secondary schools, Chinese independent high schools, and private universities in the current Chinese education system relies on the participation of members of the Chinese community in fundraising, as well as the guidance and construction of development discourse, laying the foundation for the sustainable development of Chinese education. However, in Malaysia's multicultural society, the Chinese Education Movement is facing criticism from the mainstream community, who question its agenda of racialism or consider it to be one of the factors that prevent Chinese from integrating into Malaysian society. In the face of negative criticism, it is important to examine not only the outsiders' perception but also the Chinese community's understanding and thinking about the Chinese Education Movement. The development of Chinese education has undergone changes, and the current thinking is about how to move forward and whether it is appropriate. These questions should be raised and examined at individual nodes of the long-term development of Chinese education, allowing those who care about this movement to consider them. In response to the above issues, this article takes the "Jawi Issue" in 2019 as a case study, attempting to explore the views of various parties on the development of Chinese education in Malaysia through their reactions and actions to the incident. The views of the Chinese community on government intervention, the integrity of Chinese education, and how the Chinese Education System can contribute to Malaysia's national consciousness are the focus of this article.
