光子晶體為人工製造,於一種光學基材上呈現週期性的折射率規則性變化後的光學材料。其最大的衝擊為人們終於能夠如同於半導體中控制電子一般的掌控光束的行為。本文將由就其歷史起源與理論計算方式做一概述性的說明。

Photonic crystals are artificially made crystal structures by forming periodical index modulations over a certain optical substrate. The greatest impact of photonic crystals is their capability to manipulate the flow of optical beams just as how electrons were manipulated in semiconductors. This Letter will cover brief introductions of photonic crystal in two perspectives: historical background and computational methods.
