Treatment or [Et_4 N] [(Ph_3 Sn) (CH_3 CN ) (CO)_4 M] (M=Cr, W) with NO^+BF_4^- provides approximately 70% yields of (Ph_3Sn)(CO)_4(NO)M. These compounds react with two equivalents of trimethylamine oxide to provide cis-(Ph_3Sn) (CH_3CN)_2(CO)_2(NO)M at moderate yields (65% for M=Cr, 48% for M=W). The rates or the reactions of (Ph_3Sn)(CO)_4(NO)M (M=Cr, W) with halides follow the order Cl^->Br^->I^-. New complexes, [PNP][(Ph_3Sn)Cl(CO)-3(NO)W], [Et_4N][(Ph_3Sn)Br(CO)_3(NO)W], and [Et_4N][(Ph_3Sn)I(CO)_3(NO)W], are isolated and characterized.
