There were 6 cases of histopathologically proved primary hepatoma admitted to the Pediatric Department of National Taiwan University Hospital during the 7-year period of 1959-4965. Their ages ranged from 6.5 months to 13 years. There were 3 males and 3 females. They all died within 6 months after the onsets of symptoms. Their clinical symptoms were abdominal tumor, anorexia, and loss of body weight. Jaundice was seen only in one case, All of the 6 cases had enlarged liver, and 4 of them had palpable hepatic tumor, Liver function tests showed increase in GOT (4/5), GPT (l/5), TTT (5/5), CCF (1/5), alkaline phosphatase (1/5), cholesterol (2/3), and mucoprotein (3/3), but none of them was specific for hepatoma. Two cases underwent right total hepatectomy, and 2 cases exploratory laparatomy. Two cases had liver biopsy only. Histopathologically, all 6 cases were of hepatic cell carcinoma.
