Morphological and Morphogenetic Redescriptions of the Stichotrich Ciliate Diaxonella trimarginata Jankowski, 1979 (Ciliophora, Stichotrichia, Urostylida)

並列摘要

The living morphology, infraciliature and morphogenesis of the rose-coloured stichotrich ciliate Diaxonella trimarginata Jankowski, 1979, collected from a freshwater pond in Qingdao (Tsingtao), China, were studied in vivo and after protargol impregnation. The Qingdao population of D. trimarginata is characterized by: body flexible, elongated elliptical in outline, 95-185 × 30-50 μm in vivo; two kinds of cortical granules, grass-green and red wine-coloured, respectively; single contractile vacuole positioned at anterior 1/3-1/4 of body; ca 80-140 macronuclear nodules and 7-10 micronuclei; about 37 adoral membranelles; 4 enlarged frontal cirri and 1 frontal row composed of 3-5 cirri; 5-8 buccal, 1-4 frontoterminal, 7-10 transverse cirri; midventral rows with 16-29 pairs of cirri, terminating at posterior 1/4 of the body; 4 left marginal rows, the length of which shorten incrementally from right to left; 3-4 dorsal kineties. The morphogenetic process is characterized by the following features: (1) the parental ciliature including the oral apparatus is entirely renewed; (2) the oral primordium of the proter originates de novo beneath the parental buccal cavity; (3) the right marginal row develops 2 separate anlagen intrakinetally; (4) in both dividers the left marginal rows derive from a single anlage that originates intrakinetally in the rightmost parental row, while all other old structures are morphogenetically inactive and are gradually resorbed during the division process; (5) the macronuclear nodules fuse to form a single mass prior to division. The morphogenetic data suggest a close relationship between the genera Diaxonella and Pseudourostyla, with their marginal cirri arising from a common primordium. Based on the data obtained, the genus Diaxonella Jankowski, 1979 is redefined thus: Pseudourostylidae with long midventral rows; several clearly distinct large frontal cirri and one row of frontal cirri; single long row of buccal cirri; transverse and frontoterminal cirri present; caudal cirri absent; one right and two or more left marginal rows which derive from a single anlage intrakinetally.
