Redescription of Morphology and Morphogenesis of the Freshwater Ciliate, Pseudokeronopsis similis (Stokes, 1886) Borror et Wicklow, 1983 (Ciliophora: Urostylida)

並列摘要

The morphology and morphogenesis of the urostylid ciliate Pseudokeronopsis similis, isolated from a freshwater pond in the northeast China, were investigated using live observation and protargol impregnation methods. This species is recognized by the following characters: body long elliptical, size in vivo 90-350 × 20-90 μm; single contractile vacuole situated behind buccal field near left margin; 50-90 adoral membranelles; 25-45 pairs of fronto-ventral cirri; constantly one buccal and two frontoterminal cirri, 6-15 transverse cirri; 6-7 dorsal kineties; macronucleus moniliform, with 7-35 nodules; freshwater habitat. The main morphogenetic events are: (1) macronuclear nodules fuse to form a large mass in the middle stage of division; replication bands appear in the early stage of morphogenesis; (2) the oral primordia in the opisthe originate de novo near left midventral row; (3) the anterior portion of the old AZM is retained by the proter, while the posterior part is replaced in situ by the new membranelles from the primordium formed by the dedifferentiated kinetosomes; the undulating membranes are also completely rebuilt in situ; (4) some frontal and midventral cirri join in the formation of the fronto-midventral transverse cirral anlagen; (5) the anlagen for the marginal rows and dorsal kineties develop within the parental structures. Keronopsis elongata Wang and Nie, 1935 is transferred to the genus Pseudokeronopsis as P. elongata (Wang and Nie 1935) nov. comb.
