A New Dextral Land Snail of Genus Satsuma (Pulmonata: Camaenidae) Endemic to Taiwan

摘要

In this article, the authors establish a new dextral species of camaenid land snail, Satsuma mii sp. nov. distributed in southeast Taiwan. This newly-described Satsuma land snail is of medium size, festucine to light brown in shell color, with semi-arboreal and herbivorous ecological habits. The new species can be distinguished from three other established dextral congenera species distributed in eastern Taiwan, S. litus, S. paradoxa and S. chengi by anatomical traits, morphological characters and geographical non-overlapping.

本文描述一種臺灣產新種中型右旋栗蝸牛，本種僅分布於臺灣東南部知本、大南、太麻里一帶低海拔山區，中文俗名以知本栗蝸牛名之。本種屬於中型、夜行性的植食性栗蝸牛，喜好活動於低矮潮濕的植被葉面，生態習性為半樹棲性。本種鞭狀器粗大、捲曲呈螺旋狀，異於分布於臺灣東部中低海拔地區的半樹棲性栗蝸牛如安通栗蝸牛、阿美栗蝸牛與鄭氏栗蝸牛等，生殖系統結構與其具明顯差異，且體型與地理分布亦不相同。本文對知本栗蝸牛提出明確描述，確立本種為臺灣特有且新發現之物種。
