A one-year-old female crossbreed dog weighing 13.5kg was admitted with a 3-day history of vomiting, diarrhea, severe icterus, and anorexia. The results of haematologic and plasma biochemical examinations revealed significant leukocytosis and hepatorenal failure. According to the history and c1inical pathological data, tentative diagnosis of leptospirosis was made. Definitive diagnosis of Leptospira interrogans serovar icterohaemorrhagiae infection was achieved by the results of leptospiral isolation, microscopic agglutination test, and polymerase chain reaction. After having taken the supportive and two-phase antibiotic (first phase to terminate leptospiremia and second phase to eliminate the pathogens from kidney) therapy for five weeks, the dog was cured, and no leptospires shedding was noted.
