In order to design better strategies for Taiwan's broiler health, a survey covering 432 broiler rearing and 35 breeding farms was conducted in 1989 to collect detailed epidemiological data. This survey revealed that shortest distance between chicken houses, number of veterinarians per 10,000 chicken reared, drug and vaccine expenditure were different significantly in different prefectures studied, Chronic respiratory disease (CRD) was the most frequently recorded disease in both broiler rearing and breeding industries. Results from regression analysis showed that CRD mortality rate and survival rate in both WB and CB farms; CRD mortality rate and feed conversion ratio in WB farms were correlated. Results from logistic analysis showed that occurrence of CRD and ”all-in all-out” system; occurrence of coccidiosis and raising period, region in both WB and CB farms were correlated.
