The recent research on the Meiyu front over sourthern China/Taiwan and the Yangtze River Valley was reviewed. The significance of the Meiyu rainfall in the seasonal distribution was illustrated. The climatological characteristics of the Meiyu front and the Meiyu frontal rainfall over Taiwan area were discussed. The uniqueness of the frontal structure and the associated secondary circulation were illustrated. Finally, the relation of the front and convection as well as the role of convective latent heating on the Meiyu frontogenesis was discussed.
