2002沙塵暴之光達垂直剖面觀測

Observation of Vertical Profiles of Dust Storms by the NCU Lidar during 2002 Spring Season

摘要


近年來沙塵暴侵襲台灣次數漸增,所以對於沙塵暴的防治與研究已刻不容緩,目前此類相關研究是以地面測量與氣象觀測為主。雖然亞洲其它區域已有光達(LIDAR)觀測網站之建立,但是在台灣地區尚未有類似研究。本報告藉由中央大學光達系統的監測,提供2002年春季沙塵暴侵襲台灣的時間、強度與高度分佈等的相關訊息。與地面資料相比較,我們可以瞭解沙塵垂直分佈,並發現在這幾次的沙塵警報中,沙塵暴侵襲台灣強度最強為個案6(3/18~3/20)、較弱為個案8(3/26~3/27)和個案10(4/17~4/19),並且個案7(3/23~3/24)的沙塵以較高的高度經過台灣,對地面的影響較小。由於本年度沙塵多隨鋒面來襲,利用消偏振(Depolarization),我們可以分辨水雲與沙雲的差別。

Recently in many regions of Asia, the occurrence of dust storm has become increasingly frequent such that its impact on the environmental and health problems has caused great concerns. Research efforts with regard to dust issues have mainly restricted to the ground-based measurements and meteorological observations. However, recently a lidar network of observation has been established in Asian to monitor the arriving dust storms. Such measurements will reveal vertical profiles of dust distribution. In 2002, the lidar observation in Taiwan has been established. In this paper, we present the first lidar observations of dust storms in Taiwan during the spring of 2002. In the three-month observational period between February and May, dust clouds were detected in many occasions. The polarization lidar measurements distinguish the dust clouds from water clouds. Combined with ground pollution measurements we find useful information about these dust events. For example, we found the largest dust storm attacked Taiwan in 2002 was the 3/18 event, while the 3/23 event dust storm showing strong in lidar backscattering signals, only weakly measured by the ground instrument, indicating a possibility of passing through the area above the boundary layer without descending.
