Some matallic elements have catalystic effect on combustion of organic materials. In this study, inorganic salts were used to treat bamboo incense stick and the results showed that calcium and magnesium could enhance the smoldering combustion to produce a more complete burning. Calcium chloride, calcium nitrate and magnesium nitrate could change the color of bamboo residue from black or gray black to white or gray white. Inorganic salt treated samples were produced a sharp mass loss in a smaller temperature range and shifted the first differential thermogravity mass loss to a higher temperature. Their temperature range of exothermal reactions were also become narrow at about 330-480℃.
