Major macroscopic features of 775 hardwood species from the wood lab in Taiwan Forestry Research Institute (TFRI) were computerized in the Internet for wood identification. As the population of surfing Internet is increasing, information sharing is getting more and more important. Users are able to surf the Internet by browsers no matter what platform she or he uses. Internet could therefore be a robust tool for wood identification. A website for computer aided wood identification was established through Microsoft Internet Information Service (US) and Microsoft Asp.net framework. Fifty gross features generally would be countered by hardwood were built for the search of unknown hardwoods. These homepages provide not only characteristic wood images created in the study for the users to compare with those taken under their magnifiers but in-depth information for individual wood identification in both Chinese and English. It's an innovative approach that enable the user to identify wood more efficiently.
