Manufacturing the Penetrating Type Bamboo Tar/Linseed Oil for Outdoor Used Wood Coatings

In this study, the penetrating type linseed oil-based bamboo tar wood coatings were prepared by mixing different weight ratios of bamboo tar/ linseed oil of 0/100, 5/100 and 10/100, with different driers formulations of Co/Zr/Ca% of 1.0/1.0/1.0, 1.5/0.75/0.75, and 2.0/0.5/0.5% by weight of linseed oil, respectively; the mixtures were heated to 140℃ at atmosphere environment for 3 hr. The feasibility of the coating used for outdoor wood coating was assessed. The results showed that the coating with bamboo tar/linseed oil of 5/100 had higher film hardness and the coating containing the dryer with Co/Zr/Ca% of 1.5/0.75/0.75% had the best balance between film properties and lightfastness. The film of linseed oil alone had poor lightfastness, however, the weather resistance of the film could be improved by adding bamboo tar. Furthermore, the more added bamboo tar and spray amounts of wood coatings (50-250 g/m^2), the superior decay resistance obtained and the films became more brightness after outdoor weathering test.
