In order to survey the adulteration of Chinese herbal medicinal preparations dispensed at traditional Chinese medical clinics and herbal drugstores, the Bureau collected 305 samples randomly in Taiwan are form Sep. 1985 to May. 1986. The results of thin-layer chromatography and UV spectrophotometry analysis indicated 14 samples (4.59%) were adulterated with synthetic chemical drugs. However, compared to a 7.6% (26 out of 342) of samples adulterated in 1985, the situation has been improved.
