摘要

The possible effects of forest cover on natural slope stability, based on a simple slope stability analysis equation are discussed. Generally, forest cover plays a protective role in slope stability by strengthening the soil with its root system and by influencing soil water through evapotranspiration. Where strong winds are prevalent or the potential slope failure surface is beyond the tree root system, the adverse effects of forest cover on slope stability often exceed its beneficial effects. The literature on clear cutting and slope failure is reviewed. Some recommendations on studies with respect to forest cover and slope stability are also presented.

本文是基於一簡單的坡面安定方程式，硏討森林覆蓋對坡面安定的影響。一般森林覆蓋均有助於坡面的安定，其理由在於①森林樹木的根系組對坡面土壤力學上的強固作用，②森林的蒸發、蒸散作用，使坡面土壤增加含水能力，間接減少雨水飽和坡面土壤的可能性或延緩坡面土壤吸收雨水飽和的時間。森林的存在，對坡面的安定也有不利的影響，風對樹木的吹拂搖動可能鬆散坡面土壤並造成力學上的不平衡而導致坡面崩塌，除導因於風對樹木的衝擊作用外，同時也由於樹木本身的重量，影響於坡面土壤的重心位置。如果坡面位於無強風地區而其組成的地質結構也相對地比較穩定，森林覆蓋坡面安定的影響可能益處大於害處。如果坡面位於強風地區或結構上具有不穩定條件，其可能崩塌面低於樹木的根系組織所及部分，則森林覆蓋對坡面安定的不利影響即超過它的有利影響。本文同時論評有關森林砍伐及坡面崩塌的文献，並提出有關森林覆蓋及坡面安定方面的可能研究，尚祈同好多予指正爲幸。
