摘要

森林是台灣重要資源之一，分佈在台灣山區，覆蓋着佔全部面積二分之一之山區。自古以來，森林即默默的保護廣大的山區，涵養水源，提供下游平地開發利用之需，維持民生，促進工商業繁榮。近年來工商業迅速發展，供水需求年年增加。爲因應今後供水需求，重要水源集水區之森林功能有待繼續加強之需要。本文略述現階段台灣地區水資源運用情況，水庫淤砂問題以及森林涵養水源功能，防止冲蝕，和防洪上功效。祈能促進對重要水源集水區森林功能之注意。

Forest is one of the most important resources in Taiwan, which occupies one-half of total area of the island. It protects the mountainous area from run off erosion, and contributes effort to water resources conservation. Due to the fast growth of social and economical development, the requirement of water resources is gradually increased year by year in this island. In order to meet the increased water requirement in the future, the function of forest in this aspect seems necesary to be strengthened in near future. This report describes the present operation of water resources in Taiwan, and the function of forest in mountainous watershed with respect to water resources conservation briefly.
