Four frequency analysis methods & three rainfall-intensity formulas were used in this study. The best probable rainfall distribution and optimal rainfall-intensity formula in the National Pingtung Polytechnic Institute were discussed. The results are summarize as follows: 1. According to the results of coefficient of determination and estimation of standard error by regression analysis, the Gumbel-Chow & Pearson type III distribution methods were found to be the best for frequency analysis. The Log-Normal and Log-Pearson type III distribution methods were the second. And the lwai method was the third. 2. The optimal rainfall-intensity formulas could be .arranged in a descending order as Sherman. Iwai, and Talbot. 3. When calculating the peak runoff by rational formulas, survey and analysis of the watershed characteristics, such as area and covers must be carried out beforehand, so as to prevent miscalculation and design errors in engineering constructions.
