As the changes of social-economic and political environments, whether the protection forests could function efficiently remains controversial nowadays. One of the tools to analyze environmental resources is ecological planning which is suitable to local land-use suitable planning. This study applied above method to investigate No. 2508 soil conservation protection forests in Taitung County. An ARC/TNFO Geographic Information System (GIS) was involved to analyze the data. Four assessment criteria soil loss hazards class, land use constraint classification standard, drainage density, environment risk ratio) were integrated to evaluate the impacts on soil conservation protection forest in different environmental features and land use types. The results show that 74.58% of the experimental area should maintain its original protection functions. In consideration of land use efficiency, it is necessary to retake the over-used or illegal planted forest lands and reforest them.
