The Changing Role of Microbiology in A Changing Global Society

Microbiology is a branch of science rapidly increasing in dimension and social significance. Of necessity, the microbiologist can no longer be the generalist master of his subject but must specialize. Increasing specialization poses problems that can be minimized by training programs that provide a broad introduction to the field of microbiology. Microbiologists have a responsibility to expedite the application ofnew knowledge to prevent and to cure disease.
