The Design and Fabrication of a Disc Type Direct Methanol Fuel Cell

圓盤式直接甲醇燃料電池之設計與製作

摘要


直接甲醇燃料電池因為被看好為可攜帶電子產品之替代能源的一種,而頗受到囑目。因此,需要多樣化的直接甲醇燃料電池設計,以符合可搭配不同大小、形狀、與功率裝置的限制。本文提出一款具多顆電池的圓盤式平面直接甲醇燃料電池模組,文中對其設計的概念與製作的方法有做說明。在研究中設計製作一款具多顆電池的圓盤式平面電池模組原型,並進行一系列的實驗測試,性能測試實驗包含了電池模組中個別電池的性能量測,與其串聯後的整體效能。所開發的直接甲醇燃料電池,分別以軸流扇與空氣泵等兩種陰極空氣供給方式進行性能量測與探討。實驗結果顯示,以空氣泵供應電池空氣,電池效能比軸流扇供應電池空氣為高。研究實驗結果同時成功地展示了所開發的圓盤式直接甲醇燃料電池進一步實際應用的潛力。

The direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is prominent with full potential to become a substitute energy resource in portable applications. Therefore, the diversified DMFC designs are desirable for fitting different sized and shaped device power application constraints. This paper presents a novel DMFC as a disc type planar module with multiple cells. The design concept and fabrication process for this disc type DMFC is illustrated. A prototype of the disc type DMFC was designed and fabricated in this research and a series of experiments were conducted. The performance experiments for the developed disc type DMFC include the individual cell measurements and overall performance experiments with the cells connected in series. Two cathode air supply methods were included: an axial fan or an air pump. The DMFC performances using different air supply devices are measured and discussed. The experimental results show that the cathode with an air pump supply has higher performance than the device with an axial fan. The results also demonstrate successful development of the proposed disc type DMFC with full potential for further practical applications.
