Evaluation of the Machinability of Nickel-based Superalloy with Coated Carbide Cutting Tools

塗層披覆刀具應用於鎳基超合金於之銑削性探討

摘要


本研究主要探討端銑削鎳基超合金Inconel718與Mar-M247於使用多種塗層披覆刀具下之銑削性能表現◦以往學者為了解鎳基超合金因高強度、低導熱性與加工硬化所衍生之獨特加工特性,多所針對Inconel718進行實驗分析,雖然獲得對鎳基超合金加工之基本認知,然而所得資訊是否可廣泛推演於加工Mar-M247之上並不得而知。為次,本研究當中利用多種不同塗層披覆之刀具,搭配多種加工參數(切削速度、進給率與切深)的改變,期望獲取兩種難切削材料之間之加工異同性,藉由對刀具壽命、工件表面粗糙度與生成切屑的分析,來更進一步了解其個別材料特性,並且希望經由切削條件的變化,來有效推演出切削參數的範圍與限制,提供對銑削鎳基超合金的有效加工參數組合◦

Nickel-based superalloys Inconel 718 and Mar-M247 have been widely employed in modern manufacturing owing to their good strength to weight ratio and excellent corrosion resistance. However, little literature is available dealing with the milling process in Mar-M247. Moreover, from published literature on milling of the two materials, it is difficult to directly apply the research findings from one material to the other to select the most appropriate tool coating and cutting conditions due to the different machining set-up. A comparative experimental study was conducted in this paper, using the same machining set-up to investigate the performance of cemented carbide coated inserts in milling difficult-to-machine materials. Performance of the coated cutting tools-TiN coated, TiCN coated and TiAlN coated-were compared with respect to tool failure mode, tool life, surface integrity of the workpiece, and chip segmentation. The effects of cutting speed, feed rate, and depth of cut on the tool life and surface roughness were also studied experimentally. Based on experimental data, the similarities and differences between Inconel 718 and Mar-M247 were quantitatively compared and explained, in which helps to evaluate the separated machining properties even though both materials belong to the same Nickel-based superalloy family.
