Modeling and Analyzing the Shearing of Aluminum Sheets by Using Ultrasonic Vibrations

The application of ultrasonic vibrations superimposed on wire drawing, deep drawing, upsetting, and rolling is developed in the relevant literature. Few studies have attempted to develop an ultrasonic vibration application for the process of shearing aluminum sheets. This paper investigated the effects of the superimposed punch with ultrasonic vibrations during the shearing process by applying experimental design and response surface methodology. The effects of the ultrasonic vibrations on the burr height were systematically examined. The results show that ultrasonic vibrations can decrease the burr height formation and improve the edge profile quality. The reduction of mean forming force by high-frequency vibrations is primarily caused by the stress superposition mechanism.
