Hydrostatic system is one of the most commonly used systems in the field of transmission due to its efficient operation in the wider speed-torque range and easier monitoring. The increasing demand for the Hydrostatic Transmission (HST) system has resulted in the need for detail analysis of the basic components like hydrostatic pumps and motors. In order to obtain the efficiency of the HST system, losses of the major components need to be determined as function of their operating parameters. This article presents the leakage analysis of the fixed and the variable type bent-axis hydro-motor of 28cc displacement. In this respect, the constructional and the operational details of the fixed and the variable displacement hydro-motors are studied. The effects of the operating pressure and oil the temperature on the leakage flow characteristic of the hydro-motors are analyzed experimentally. From the comparative study, it is observed that the leakage flow rate of the variable displacement hydro-motor is higher than that of the fixed displacement hydro-motors at same operating conditions.
