Snakebite accidents occur from time to time. There are six kinds of common seen poisonous snakes in Taiwan. In addition to knowing the classifications of poisonous snakes and giving the correct anti-venin, it is important to detect and prevent the complications of poisonous snakebites in advance. Continuous nursing care and assessment may achieve this goal and help the patients to recover sooner. This article discusses the characteristics of the commonly seen poisonous sakes in Taiwan, the local and systemic symptoms of poisonous snakebites, and the information about how to manage the poisonous snakebite patients. Further more, we also discuss how to detect the expansion of venom. It’s our expectation that this article will be helpful for the nurses when taking care of poisonous snakebite patients.
