This article discussed the disease manifestation, psychosocial reaction and adjustment of a drug addicted woman who was first diagnosed with AIDS during a hospitalization from October 9 2005 to November 5 2005. We have confirmed that our case anticipated depression, knowledge deprivation, coexist infection and lack of dignity according to observation interview, physical examination and information from our medical team, family discussion and the Newman Systems Model as assessment framework. During the course of nursing care, we have built a good relationship with the family by using sympathy and a sincere attitude. We also offered relevant information and emotional support suitable for her specific demands. So she could adopt an optimistic strategy, understand the problems this disease might bring to her and adapt to the changing life style caused by the disease. After all, favorable life quality is important to everyone.
