Regular outpatient treatment is so important. Repeated hospitalization of mentally ill patients is a great burden to the family members both emotionally and financially. This project aimed at reducing the outpatients' follow-up noncompliance rate. The overall outpatient noncompliance rate was 24.42% from Dec 2005 to Feb 2006. This project provided enhanced health education leaflets, amendment of discharge process and reminding of appointment date via telephone by hospital staff. The project significantly improved the noncompliance rate from 24.42%to 6.67%. This project effectively enhanced the quality of hospital services, improved the outpatient follow-up compliance rate, stabilized patients' symptoms and helped the patients go back to the community.
