A 2013 survey revealed that the shortage rate in 36 nursing station storerooms was 26.39%. Therefore, this study reduced the shortage rate in nursing station storeroom management at medical centers. Five problems responsible for this shortage rate were indentified: cleaning days were not specified at all stations, storeroom inventory was not compiled, storeroom items were not labeled, minimum supply issuance units were insufficient, and storeroom supply management was inadequate. Solutions to these problems were as follows: determining hospital cleaning days and audit rules, providing in-service training, unified production of marking labels, implementing regular weekly inventories, implementing smallest packaging storeroom pickup systems, and increasing the frequency of supply system resupply. After appropriate interventions, the shortage rate decreased from 26.39% to 3.13% and subsequently to 1.04% during the maintenance period; the storeroom items are now clearly marked, station personnel maintain the principle of first-in first-out, articles are no longer excessively stockpiles of articles, and the cleanliness of the storeroom environment has improved. Consequently, these storerooms provide safer medical material and supplies, thus increasing the effectiveness of medical services, reducing the cost of storerooms materials, and reducing the inventory compiling time.
