Information Literacy in Nursing: A Concept Analysis

Information literacy in nursing is becoming an increasingly crucial skill through which healthcare professionals can engage in evidence-based practice and deliver high-quality nursing care. To achieve such literacy, nurses must be able to recognize the information required and locate, access, critically evaluate, and effectively use it to achieve specific goals. However, literature addressing information literacy in nursing is limited. In this study, we used the concept analysis method proposed by Walker and Avant (2019) to explore nursing information literacy. Herein, we describe its defining characteristics, clarify the core concepts, and establish the predisposing factors and effects of nursing information literacy by using, as examples, typical, borderline, related, and contrary cases. We expect the results to guide nurses in evaluating and improving their self-efficacy.
