Clinical nursing operations are complicated, paper-based intravenous infusion record sheets cannot be updated according to doctor's instructions in real time, and written updating is time-consuming and delays treatment. Therefore, information-based electronic paper should be used to reduce the time required for intravenous infusion operations. Analysis identified the following reasons for excessive intravenous infusion times: time-consuming manual transcription of doctor's orders to intravenous infusion records and labels, time-consuming return trips to the infusion preparation room for infusions based on label paper, a complicated paper-based operations process, the inability to sign labels for immediate use, and a lack of materials for the replacement of paper record sheets. An intravenous infusion operation initially required up to 300 s. This project was undertaken to shorten the time required for intravenous infusion operations to 120 s to improve patient safety through the construction of an electronic intravenous infusion system, the establishment of standard procedures, on-the-job education, simultaneous updating of the electronic intravenous infusion system when doctor's orders changed, the use of electronic paper-based quick response codes for immediate signing or intravenous infusion label, and other measures.
