With earnest endorsement of United Nations and following support from many nations' governments, gender mainstreaming has become the most important global strategy in promotion of gender equality since 1995. This article introduces the key issues in theory and practice of gender mainstreaming across countries. It also discusses advances and limitations in the implementation of gender mainstreaming by the Taiwanese central government. It then purposes several strategies for future improvements including regulation of gender impact assessment procedures required of all main policies and laws to avoid the problems of technocratization.
