Effects of natural and induced ovarian activity and certain drugs were studied on rat uterine and ileal motility. The mean uterine amplitude(motility) was much greater while the mean ileal frequency was much faster than the other. Each mean amplitude increased from proestrus on, with a maximum for uterus in metaestrus and for ileum in estrus, when mean frequency of both was random under all conditions studied. Ovariectomy reduced mean uterine amplitude more than mean ileal amplitude. Treating spayed rats with pregnancy woman urine or estrone increased both uterine and ileal mean amplitude. Treating the male rat similarly also increased its mean ileal amplitude. When all findings were statistically treated and diagrammatically contrasted, it was deduced that both organs behaved qualitatively similar to endogenous and exogenous ovarian hormones and that their activity could be modified by many unknown factors. Significantly the ileum of the female and male rat was more sensitive to estrogen than the uterus. A contrast diagram was suggested and evidences for possible variation of motility presented and discussed.
