Respiratory Quotient of the Rat under Basal Conditions

基礎情況下大白鼠的呼吸商

測定年齡不同,經下視丘手術,或禁食十八至廿四小時,及在戊巴比妥鈉麻醉下大白鼠之呼吸商,則見不論大白鼠種別是否相同,僅禁食至廿四小時呼吸商由0.80降至0.70。斷奶幼鼠-雖為另一種-之耗氧量雖較高,但不影響此種呼吸商之改變。幼年鼠耗氧量較高,為氣體交換較快之指針,而呼吸商之差異可能為不同程度之夜間活動及食物缺乏所致。此二因素促使在禁食廿四小時後降呼吸商為0.70以上,互為因果。分析動物屍體側見水份在去脂肪體重中恒定。去脂肪體重不但與耗氧量相關,而與以卡計算之產熱量更密切相關。水份含量及產熱量與去脂肪體重更相關之事實,符合每單位主要體重中恒定血液量及肺活量之結果。

Respiratory quotient of rats was studied under pentobarbital after hypothalamic operations at different ages and after fasting 18 to 24 hours. Only with fasting up to 24 hours did R.Q. change from around 0.80to 0.70 which was not affected inspite of a higher O2 consumption for the weanling rats, though of a different strain. The higher O2 consumption indicated a faster gaseous exchange for the young while wide variationin R.Q.'s probably resulted from varying degrees of nocturnal activity and food deprivation. Both factors tended to complement each other in lowering the R.Q. to 0.70 in approximately 24 hours. Analysis of the carcasses revealed the constancy of water with respect to nonfat body weight which was correlated with O2 consumption in ml and better still with heat production in calories per 100 gm non-fat body weight. The fact that non-fat body weight is oriented more with body water and heat prodcction is in line with findings blood volume, vital capacity etc. per unit essential body mass.
