山藥新品種臺農1號之親本源自千里達地區之Coconut-Lisbon,自1967年引進後,歷經多年馴化與選育試驗,於1991年命名推廣。新品種具有繁殖容易、產量高而穩定、品質優越及適應力大之優點,能適應本省海拔800m以下之生長環境,其地上部蔓及葉生長旺盛,蔓長可達6m,地下部塊莖產量高而穩定。由四次區域試驗之產量結果可知,臺農1號之平均公頃塊莖產量達22t/ha。新品種塊莖皮薄,肉厚、色白且多粘質,富含澱粉、蛋白質及多種礦物質與必需肢基酸,營養價值甚高,可供食用、加工用及藥用。新品種塊莖在17℃或14℃下之貯藏時間可達26週或32週以上,在利用上具有很大的內銷及外銷潛力。
The new yan (Dioscorea alata L.) cultivar Tainung No. 1 was originated from the line Coconut-Lisbon introduced from Trinidad in 1967. After a series of acclimatization, observatory, preliminary, advanced and regional yield trials, the new cultivar was registered and released for commercial production in 1991 due toits superiop performances such as easy propagation, high and stable yield, high quality and wide adaptability. Tainung No. 1 yam is a perennial herb with running growth habit, with vine length abouh 6 m after 6 to 8 months of cultivation. Experimental results from four regional yield trials indicated that the mean tuber yield of this variety could reach 22 t/ha. Its tuber possesses some superior characteristics, e.g., thin skin, thick flesh with white color and high viscosity, and high contents of starch, protein, mineral elements, and all kinds of essential amino acids. It is recommended for table use, processing, and medicinal purposes. The storage life of the tuber could be extended up to 26 and 32 weeks when stored at 17 and 14℃, respectively. Extension of storage life is beneficial to the utilization of this important economic crop.
