In the present investigation a vibrio was isolated from fresh-water cultured diseasedayu, Plecoglossus altivelis. On the basis of biochemical characteristics, it was identified as Vibrio anguillarum. The organism was euryhaline, i. e., it could grow well in the culture media containing 0%-7% NaCl. As far as pathogenicity was concerned, it produced symptoms of red disease in ayu and loach by experimental infection. The isolated strain was highly sensitive to chloramphenicol and tetracycline.
