本研究計畫之目的係嘗試利用形態測定之方法來從事本省產島魚(Mugil cephalus)之族羣判別工作。研究共利用於1985至1987年間所採獲之186尾成魚之標本,其中包括52尾養殖及134尾天然(探自臺灣西海岸不同海域)烏魚。將27個測量形質之資料利用不同單變值及多變值之聚類及空間排序方法分析之結果顯示,烏魚可分為下列三羣:養殖(採自養殖池)、半天然(於大鵬灣中成長)、及天然(於外海廻游之島魚)。主成份分析結果顯示區分上述三羣較重要之形質包括吻長,眼徑,第二背鰭至臀鰭之間距及尾柄高等形質。但天然烏魚羣中尚未發現有不同類型存在。此一研究結果與過去從事烏魚生殖生物學,產卵場及肌肉蛋白質電泳之結果頗為一致。
The purpose of this study was trying to discriminate the populations ofthe grey mullet(Mugil cephalus)via the data of morphometric measurement.A total of 186 adult specimens,52 cultivated and 134 wild(various parts ofof western Taiwan)fishes collected during 1985 to 1987 were used.Differentunivariate and multivariate clustering or ordination techniques were appliedon the 27 characters of measurements.The results revealed that the mulletscould be classified into three different groups:cultivated(in aquaculturepond),semi-wild(growing up in the Tapeng Bay),and wild(migratory inopen waters)mullets.The results of principal component analysis indicatedthat the most important characters to discriminate the above three groupsare the snout length,eye diameter,the distance between second dorsal andanal fin,the length and height of caudal peduncle.However no clearlydifferent types could be found in the natural migratory fish specimens.Theseresults consist with some previous study results on the reproductive biology,spawning ground and muscle protein electrophoresis of the grey mullet.
