Four species of teleost(Acanthopagrus schlegeli,Lateolabrax japonicus,Oreochromis mossambicus, and Poecilia velifera)were anesthetized with differentconcentrations of 2-phenoxyethanol(2-PE).Induction time of all fishes decreasedwith increasing concentrations of 2-PE but recovery time was concentration-inde-pendent.The induction time of the four fishes anesthetized with same concentrationof 2-PE varied.A.schlegeli and L.japonicus were anesthetized within 3 minin 400 ppm 2-PE solution. The induction time for O.mossambicus and P.veliferaat the concentration of 600 ppm was, however, longer than 3 min. Therefore, toanesthetize the latter two fishes effectively, higher concentration of 2-PE may benecessary.
