Dietary Supplementation of Insulin Like Growth Factor-I Analog Improves Glucose Utilization in Juvenile Hybrid Tilapia Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus

飼料中添加類胰島素生長因子-I類似物可促進雜交吳郭魚(Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus)對葡萄糖之利用性

摘要

To evaluate the effect of insulin-like growth factor-I (IGF-I) analog (peptide with 10 amino acids) on carbohydrate utilization of juvenile hybrid tilapia Oreochromis niloticus × O. aureus, fish meal basal diet containing either starch (S) or glucose (G) as carbohydrate source supplemented with IGF-I peptide (S+P and G+P) for total of 4 experimental diets each was fed to triplicate groups of tilapia (initial body wt: 0.63 ± 0.02 g) in a recirculated rearing system for 8 wks. Fish fed S, S+P and G+P diets had significantly (p < 0.05) higher weight gain (WG), feed efficiency (FE) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) than fish fed the G diet. Plasma glucose concentration in fish fed G diet was higher than that in fish fed the S and S+P diets. Hepatic hexokinase, phosphofructokinase, glucose-6-phosphatase, malic enzyme and glucose- 6-phosphate dehydrogenase activities were similar in all dietary groups. The result suggests that dietary supplementation of IGF-I analog peptide improves glucose utilization in tilapia.
