Study on Fishing Condition of Mackerel of Danish Seine Operated in Southwestern Waters of Taiwan

Mackerel is the main catch for large mackerel/scad purse seine vessels operated in the waters southwest of Taiwan main catch, accounting for about 56%, its main fishing grounds are in the waters along the 200 m contours from Taiwan with toward southwest direction. Currently in this sea area near the main fishing mackerel is Danish seine, which is proximity to coastal fisheries around 200m isobath waters near Taiwan and the Penghu archipelago. The information indicated that catch of Scomber japonica ratio is more than that of Scomber australasicus ratio and is about 82:18 in southwestern waters off Taiwan. The results obtained from the Danish seine for carrying out the GAM model analysis for CPUE of Scomber japonica and Scomber australasicus indicates that annual, monthly, surface temperature and bottom depth have the significant relationships with both species. Scomber australasicus in this model could explain 42.6% of the residuals, the highest migratory amount in the surface temperature 24℃ while above 28℃has the lowest migratory amount, and the bottom depth of approximately 120 m also has the highest migratory amount. And Scomber japonica in the same model could explain 50.3% of the residuals, the migratory amount gradually decreased from 1997 to 2001, while that increased gradually from 2002 to 2006, but gradually reduced again from 2007 to 2010. The migratory amount is highest in surface temperature about 24~25℃, also highest in the bottom depth of approximately 120 m. From the satellite surface temperature chart shows when the mainland coastal waters approach shelf break front, and the Kuroshio does not completely subsided, Scomber japonica has the highest migratory amount.
