Cryopreservation and Its Molecular Impacts on Microorganisms

摘要


Cryopreservation has gradually become indispensable for preserving valuable genetic materials such as ecologically valuable microorganisms. Studying the appropriate conservation mechanisms of microorganisms is crucial because of their interaction and symbiosis with various marine creatures. However, preserving microorganisms at extremely low temperatures can be harmful to such species. The effects of cryopreservation on cryopreserved microorganisms depend on the accuracy of experiments such as viability assays. In addition to viability, the molecular impacts of cryopreserved samples should be evaluated, particularly for samples that are involved in reproduction or for conservation and genomic banking purposes. Cryopreservation and its molecular impacts on 4 groups of microorganisms are discussed in this paper.
