The Problem of Personality in Alexander Solzhenitsyn's Works of Literature

During the period of the last ten years after the death of Stalin (l878-1953), the development of cultural life in Russia received the name ”The Thaw”. This period gave Russian people an opportunity to notice the problem of selfvalue of personality. Therefore, Russian literature in this period was characterized by psychological analysis, individuality, personality. Each writer added some of his own ideas about the individual to his works. The change of conception of personality and emphisis of it complicated the position of the writers in their works. The appearance of Alexander Solzhenitsyn's works in the early sixties became a new special phenomenon in Russian literature. The main purpose of this paper is to examine the problem of personality in Alexander Solzhenitsyn's works of literature: ”One Day in the Life of Ivan Denisovich”, ”The Farm of Matrena” and to introduce the two works to the reader.
