The three dimensional numerical simulation of the three parallel tunnels under excavation ha s been conducted by a multi-purpose finite element analysis package, ANSYS. The effect of tunnel deformation due to the excavation sequence and the interaction between adjacent tunnels have been investigated. In this study, it is found: 1. The sequences of tunnel excavation can be conveniently monitored and modeled by a three dimensional approach of analysis. 2. The different sequences of tunnel excavation result in the different plastic flow conditions of the rocks, thus have a substantial effect on the final deformation of the tunnels. 3. The interaction between the pilot tunnel and the main tunnel have a greater effect than the one between two main tunnels. 4. This study predicts a higher tunnel deformation than the results from the in-situ measurements.
