Growth and Charactrerization of Single Crystals of Bi2Sr2CaCu2Oχ by Using SrCaCu2Oy as a Precusor and a Mixture of PbO and Bi2O3 as a Flux

Using a standard ceramic technology, the pre-synthesized powder of SrCaCu2Oy as a precusor and the mixture of approprite mole ratio of Bi2O3 and PbO as a flux were prepared, separately. Then, the precusor and the flux were mixed in a certain weight ratio, and filled into a gold crucible for crystal growth. The largest mirror-like platelet crystal of (2212) phase with size up to 20 x 4 mm^2 have been grown successfully. The characterization of the as-grown crystals have shown to possess Tc,onset ≅ 80 K and with good qualities in structure. In addition, the Au ions have not been dectected in these crystals by EDS though gold crucible is used.
