We have calculated the A particle-nucleon hole core polarization diagram Gpp△h to investigate the effect of the A three-nucleon force on the shell-model effective interactions. A realistic NN ↔ NA transition G-matrix GN△ is derived using a △-subtracted Paris potential and the coupled-channel approach of Lee and Matsuyama. The core-polarization diagrams Gpp△h, second order in GN△, are found to be very small for the sd-shell valence nucleons. Satisfactory convergence is reached by including A excitations up to 20 oscillator shells for the summation of the A intermediate states in Gpp△h.
