In this paper, the Exp-function method is used to construct generalized solitary wave solutions of the two-dimensional (2D) Ginzburg-Landau equation, which is a typical complex equation in optics. It is shown that the Exp-function method is a straightforward and concise mathematical tool for nonlinear evolutional equations (NLEEs) in mathematical physics. It shows a wide applicability for handling not only real NLEEs but also complex NLEEs.
