Flexible liquid crystal displays (LCDs) have become a popular topic nowadays. Many kinds of processes have been used to make flexible LCDs. In this paper, we fabricate a flexible LC device by the replica molding method-using Poly (dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) rather than plastic as the substrate. Here, the PDMS acts not only as the substrate but also as the alignment-layer in the flexible LCD; thus there is no need to coat an additional alignment-layer onto the flexible substrates. According to our results, we have successfully increased the flexibility of rollable LC devices via the replica molding method. Also, fewer fabrication steps are needed in comparison with other conventional processes. These two achievements can increase the range of applications and reduce the cost of the manufacturing process.
